What activities does the troop offer?

Our troop offers a wide range of activities including weekly meetings, camping, outdoor adventures, and community service projects. We also have a Troop or National High-Adventure Trip yearly, as well as attending Summer Camp.

Is there a minimum age requirement for scouts?

Scouts can join our troop in Fifth through 12th grade (17 years old).

Does my Scout need a Uniform?

Yes, we wear our uniforms to every meeting, when in public and also while traveling together.

Your Scout will need an official beige BSA shirt, a pair of green Zip off pants and a BSA Scoutbook. The Troop will provide a Neckerchief. (Class A uniform)

Once a year, we place an order for Troop t-shirts, sweatshirts and hats. (Class B uniform)

Uniforms and a ScoutBook can be purchased online at the BSA scouting store, Army Navy in Pottstown or at the Hawk Mountain Council building on Route 61. We also have many donations of scout uniform shirts and pants available.

How does the Troop communicate with the parents?

A weekly email update is sent out on Monday mornings. We also provide up-to-the-minute updates on our private Facebook page.

What is required for Medical Forms?

Parts A&B are required for all Scouting activities and should be submitted prior to the first campout. These parts are signed by the parents and do not require the signature of a doctor or medical professional. Part C is required for Summer Camp and other activities over 72 hours in duration. This part must be signed by a doctor or medical practitioner. These forms are valid for 1 year from the signature date and must be submitted annually.

How is Scout medication handled while camping?

There is a Leader appointed for medication each trip. Medication will be securely stored and administered by the First Aid Officer. Scouts are not permitted to carry their own medications (with the exception of a rescue inhaler or epi-pen). Please detail the medication and dosage instructions on the medical form. All medications should be packaged in the original container in a clear ziploc bag with the scouts name on the bag.

Can I camp with my Scout?

Of Course! However, per Scouting America guidelines all adults who attend overnight outings must be registered leaders with the Troop. Registration is not mandatory to attend day trips or to volunteer for service projects. With the exception of visiting registered Arrows of Light (when attending recruiting trips), siblings who are not registered Scouts in the Troop are not permitted to attend camping trips.

To attend camping trips, unregistered adults must do the following:

  • Obtain criminal and child abuse background checks in accordance with the Child Protective Services Law of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (copies of previously obtained, unexpired clearances are acceptable).
  • Create an account, submit an Adult Application and pay the annual dues on my.souting.org.
  • Complete the BSA’s web-based Youth Protection Training (available at my.scouting.org).
  • Complete Parts A and B of the BSA Medical Form.

All Campouts are Scout led. The Thursday prior to a campout, the Scouts will plan all of the meals and activites, and go grocery shopping with a Leader.

On overnight outings, adults will not sleep in a tent with their Scout, they will sleep in a seperate tent.

Can my Scout take their cell phone or other electronic devices on trips?

Cell phones may be brought on trips, but after we arrive at our location, are to be used for taking pictures or looking up pertinent information (maps, trails, recipe, etc) only. Leader information is provided, and leaders can be contacted if communication with your Scout is needed.

My son / daughter plays sports. How does Scouting fit in?

Scouting and sports play hand-in-hand! Most of our Troop members have activities outside of Scouting- swimming, baseball, hockey, band, junior firefighter, school plays and SO MUCH MORE! Scouting is on YOUR schedule! Come when you can and work at your own speed on advancements and achievements!

Does the Troop have Fundraising to pay for all these campouts and activities?

Yes! The Troop has a twice-a-year Kaufman's chicken BBQ. The Scouts earn money by selling the tickets, and also by working the day of the pick ups. We also participate in the Boscov's Friends Helping Friends Sale, where the entire $5.00 sale price of the tickets go right to the Scout's account!

What can my Scouts 'bank' account be used for?

Your Scouts 'bank' account can be used to pay for their campouts and activities, as well as their monthly dues. It can also be used to purchase Scout related items such as hiking boots, day packs, tents and more! See Jen Dougherty for additional details.

How much are monthly dues and what do they pay for?

Monthly dues are $14 per Scout. These are used to pay for your Scouts following year registration, as well as up to 5 Merit Badges a year. See Jen Dougherty for additional details!

Does the Troop have Gift Certificates?
